For beginners or new operators, there are three things to check before starting a laser cutting system, 12 basic steps for using a laser cutting machine, and 12 safety rules to follow during operation.
How to Use a Laser Cutting Machine
3 Things to Check Before Starting the Laser Cutting Machine
l Check whether the power supply voltage matches the rated voltage of the laser cutting machine. This helps prevent unnecessary damage.
l Make sure the exhaust duct is placed at the air outlet so airflow is not blocked.
l Check whether there are any foreign objects on the laser cutting worktable.
12 Steps for Using a Laser Cutting Machine
1. Fix the cutting material. Place the material on the worktable and secure it properly.
2. Adjust the machine settings according to the material and thickness of the metal sheet.
3. Select the right lens and nozzle. Before cutting, check whether they are clean and in good condition.
4. Adjust the focal length. Move the cutting head to the correct focus position.
5. Check and adjust the nozzle center.
6. Calibrate the cutting head sensor.
7. Select the proper assist gas and check whether the gas flow is working well.
8. Run a test cut. After cutting, check whether the cut edge is smooth and whether the cutting accuracy meets the requirement. If there is any error, adjust the machine settings until the sample is acceptable.
9. Prepare the workpiece drawing and nesting layout, then import them into the cutting system.
10. Adjust the cutting head position and start cutting.
11. During operation, the operator must stay near the machine and watch the cutting process carefully. In an emergency, respond quickly and press the emergency stop button.
12. Check the cutting quality and accuracy of the first sample.
12 Safety Rules for Laser Cutting Machines
1.Follow the general safety rules for laser cutting machines. Start the laser strictly according to the correct startup procedure.
2.Operators must receive proper training. They should understand the machine structure, machine performance, and basic operation of the control system.
3.Wear the required protective equipment. Suitable laser safety glasses must be worn near the laser beam.
4.Avoid processing any material unless you know it is safe to expose it to laser light or heat. Some materials may release dangerous smoke or vapor.
5.When the laser cutting machine is running, the operator should stay at the workstation. If the operator needs to leave, stop the machine or turn off the power switch first.
6.Keep a fire extinguisher within easy reach. When the machine is not cutting, turn off the laser or close the laser shutter. Keep paper, cloth, and other flammable materials away from any unprotected laser beam.
7.If anything abnormal happens during laser cutting, stop the machine immediately. Troubleshoot the issue or report it to the supervisor.
8.Keep the laser generator, machine frame, and surrounding area clean and organized. Remove oil stains. Workpieces, metal sheets, and scrap materials should be stacked according to the rules.
9.When using gas cylinders, avoid damaging the cylinder, valve, or gas line to prevent leakage. Use and transport gas cylinders according to gas cylinder safety rules. Keep cylinders away from direct sunlight and heat sources. When opening the cylinder valve, the operator should stand to the side of the valve outlet.
10.After starting the laser cutting machine, manually move the machine at low speed in the X and Y directions to check whether there is any abnormal movement.
11.After entering a new workpiece program, run a test first and check how the program works.
12.During operation, pay attention to the machine movement and make sure the laser cutting machine does not move beyond its effective travel range.
